In this episode of mChats, Julia Raiskin, our CEO, APAC, shares her journey from 25+ years on the sell side to overseeing Millennium’s efforts across APAC.
You’re based in Singapore and lead Millennium’s efforts across APAC. What drew you to the region?
APAC is incredibly diverse—both in terms of markets and talent. From Singapore to Hong Kong and India, each market has its own characteristics and opportunities. What makes this region so exciting is the pace of innovation and growth. We’re constantly adapting to new market dynamics while building teams that reflect the region’s rich diversity.
You spent over 25 years on the sell side before joining Millennium. What led you to make the move?
Millennium combines entrepreneurialism and innovation on a global scale. In APAC, that means supporting our teams across highly diverse markets with distinct characteristics, regulatory environments and business practices. The opportunity to grow the firm’s presence in such a dynamic region and work with teams across both our investment and core infrastructure functions was incredibly compelling.
How does Millennium support investment teams across such a geographically diverse region?
We build market access, technology and risk management capabilities that are tailored to each market’s needs. Our investment teams want corporate access, cutting-edge technology and market insights—and we work hard to deliver that. Beyond infrastructure, we focus on fostering collaboration and ensuring our teams have the resources they need to thrive, wherever they are in the region.
You’ve been a strong advocate for women in finance. What advice would you give to women and others starting their careers in this industry?
Seek out mentors, build your network and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. There are countless opportunities to make an impact. Be curious, stay engaged and don’t be afraid to advocate for your ideas.
What qualities do you look for in people who succeed at Millennium?
People who thrive at Millennium approach challenges with curiosity and a willingness to learn, while contributing to a collaborative environment. Success comes from combining a results-driven mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and markets.
What are some of your favorite foods or dishes?
I would say I love all kinds of Hong Kong dim sum in its infinite variety and Indian Alfonso mangoes in season. If I had to pick a favorite dish that’s popular in Singapore though, it would be Popiah—it’s a bit like a burrito!
