Meet two Millennium employees in London whose commitment to mentorship has advanced their perspectives and furthered their careers. Read below for reflections from Carl O’Brien, Finance Manager, and Megan Burton, HR Operations Senior Associate.
What is one lesson you’ve learned as a mentor/mentee?
Carl (Mentor): Sometimes all that’s needed is one piece of the right advice for someone to grow. Megan navigates my advice and openness and tailors it to her strengths to demonstrate significant progress professionally and personally.
Megan (Mentee): Carl helped grow my confidence within my role, helping identify areas for development in the present and future.
What values or principles do you consider most important in a mentorship pairing?
Carl (Mentor): My role as a mentor is to offer respect, active listening, and an open-door policy. I’m always here for Megan and my other mentees.
Megan (Mentee): Mutual respect and trust. I can count on Carl to give me honest advice and feedback.
What’s one thing you didn’t expect to gain from mentorship?
Carl (Mentor): The intrinsic reward of seeing my mentee overcome a challenge and flourish at something complex that we had prepared for.
Megan (Mentee): Mentorship helps me grow my network. Carl taught me the importance of making connections both within and outside of my department.
