In this episode of mChats, Karyn Geringer, Head of Capital Development, Americas, reflects on how capital development supports the firm’s broader mission and the career lessons that continue to shape how she leads
How do you think about the role capital development plays in the firm’s broader mission?
Capital development is central to how the firm builds and maintains its presence across markets. It requires a deep understanding of our platform and the ability to communicate that clearly. At Millennium, that means staying closely connected to what is happening across the business—our culture and our strengths—so we can represent the firm accurately and effectively.
How do you think about building and leading a team in a role like yours?
Building a strong team starts with finding people who are curious, driven and good at what they do. From there, it’s about creating an environment where they feel supported to do their best work and grow. I think carefully about how our team works together, how we communicate and how we make sure everyone is aligned around the same goals. In capital development, internal cohesion is everything – it’s what allows us to show effectively for the firm.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career that shapes how you lead today?
The people around you are everything. Investing in relationships—with colleagues, mentors and your team—pays dividends throughout your career in ways you can’t always anticipate.
What keeps you motivated and energized in your work?
The variety of people I get to meet and work with every day. I love that capital development takes you everywhere, literally and figuratively. Millennium genuinely encourages you to keep learning and gives you tools to do it, which keeps the work feeling fresh and expansive no matter how long you’ve been doing it.
