In this episode of mChats, Gideon Mann, Global Head of AI, Technology, discusses his team’s approach to building foundational and custom AI tools for the firm.
What excites you most about working with Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
It has been decades, if not longer, since we’ve experienced a transformational moment in technology similar to what is happening with AI, and the consequences of this transformation will reach far beyond software. As our Chief Information Officer says, at any given time we have “a thousand flowers blooming” at Millennium and it’s thrilling to see these early shoots take root and transform our work.
How does Millennium approach innovation around AI?
Our approach to AI is consistent with Millennium’s approach to innovation since our founding. We build technology in close partnership with our end-users, allowing us to focus our efforts on their specific challenges and build solutions that are shaped by their needs and challenges. This model allows us to quickly discover valuable technology and then rapidly scale promising innovations across our global business.
What does your team focus on?
AI at Millennium has both centralized and federated teams. My core team builds foundational technology as well as partnering with the businesses in the core platform to build targeted applications. An example of our foundational technology is our internally built search platform which provides employees the ability to search and interrogate proprietary content and lets developers integrate search functionality into own applications.
Outside of your day-to-day work, what is one way you use AI in your own life—or one unexpected way it has surprised you?
Actively engaging with the technology is the only way to appreciate how quickly the technology is advancing. In my programming projects at home, I’ve observed just how much faster I can execute. Not only can AI perform larger and larger coding tasks, but some iterative research work is now easily within its grasp.
