In this feature, we spoke with Kunal Sarak. He joined Millennium as an intern and now works on the firm’s Technology Infrastructure team, advancing impactful AI solutions for the firm. Learn more about his journey.
You started your journey at Millennium as an intern. How did that experience shape your career and prepare you for your current role as a software engineer?
I started at Millennium in 2018 as an intern focused on end user engineering. The internship gave me hands-on machine learning and analytics experience that built my technical foundation and sparked my passion for applied AI.
When you joined Millennium full-time, you started in client engineering and now work with the firm’s applied AI team. What was that transition like? How did you build the skills and knowledge to make that shift?
After completing my Master’s degree, I joined Millennium full-time. I proactively shared my interest in AI, and the firm’s supportive culture helped me make the transition to the AI infrastructure team.
What makes Millennium an exciting place for technologists to work, and how does the firm support innovation and growth in technology-focused roles?
In Infrastructure, we tackle a wide variety of complex problems and work closely together to solve them. I’m constantly learning from talented colleagues and contributing to impactful solutions.
You’ve mentioned that learning something new every day is your favorite part of the job. Can you share an example of a recent challenge you solved or a skill you’ve developed?
I love the continuous cycle of learning new things and immediately applying it to real problems. Recently, I’ve been working with and deepening my understanding of agentic workflows for AI agent orchestration.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in software engineering, especially in the field of AI and automation?
Being proactive about learning and leveraging the knowledge around you is key to accelerating your career in AI and automation. The field moves fast, but there are incredible opportunities and subject matter experts willing to help you grow.
